POSITION SUMMARY

Primarily serves on Material Review Board (MRB) and provides technical evaluation of discrepant hardware and recommends disposition for the hardware (use as is, repair, rework, scrap) based on design requirements, application, and engineering expertise. In a secondary role, serves as Repair and Salvage Center (RSC) Engineer, performing Material Review for aftermarket components. Provides technical evaluation of discrepant hardware and recommends disposition for the hardware (use as is, repair, rework, scrap) based on design requirements, application, and engineering expertise. Must be well versed in manufacturing processes and work closely with stress, manufacturing and quality engineers to define root cause and implement corrective actions. Supports continuous improvement events. Develops and recommends solutions to hardware discrepancies for complex or specialized components, to ensure that design objectives are met. Applies engineering principles in product evaluations.

Provides technical expertise and leadership in an engineering discipline, product, or systems field. Researches and carries out complex engineering assignments that result in the introduction of new technologies, products, or processes. Contributes to and has responsibility for the completion of significant assignments with broad product, technology, customer, and strategic business impact. Develops and recommends solutions to unique technical challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops conceptual and detailed product repairs by analyzing performance and customer requirements. Investigates design factors such as function, materials, performance, interchangeability, cost (non‐recurring and recurring), operational efficiency, and contractual requirements.
  • Applies scientific analysis and GD&T to predict and measure the outcome and consequence of hardware discrepancies. Interprets and validates test or measurement results for accuracy and precision. Recommends product test procedures and parameters to achieve customer and product reliability and safety standards (e.g. failure analysis).
  • Provides expert technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning by carefully analyzing and applying advanced engineering and scientific concepts.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other technical resources to provide recommendations, lessons learned, methods for problem-solving, analysis methodology, etc. to maximize contribution to multiple projects or programs.
  • Makes technical proposals and presentations to various internal and customer groups to influence business decisions. Maintains and takes steps to protect company intellectual property.
  • Conducts analysis and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, equipment or processes and completes required documentation by determining required actions, performing or directing completion of tasks and publishing findings and/or results.
  • Maintains advanced level of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, benchmarking best practices, and/or participating in professional associations.
  • Acts as consultant to management on technical and project-related matters. Serves as a functional expert. Identifies mentoring and development needs; serves as a mentor for other employees.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate) in engineering or a science technical discipline; Master’s degree (MS) preferred.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 10-12 years of related experience, such as prior Material Review Board experience, repair and salvage experience, production and/or MRO technical support experience.
  • Has thorough knowledge of hydraulics, flight control servo actuators, pressure vessels, control valves and develops breadth of knowledge of aerospace practices, techniques, regulations, and policies. Knowledge or material properties, familiarity with stress analysis methods, understands GD&T, ability to perform tolerance stackups.
  • Has thorough knowledge of manufacturing practices in order to relate discrepancies to manufacturing and suggest improvements with an eye for manufacturability; ability to use standard software packages.
  • Comprehensive, advanced knowledge of product or domain engineering theories (e.g. mechanical, electronic, packaging, etc.), principles, industry practices, concepts, techniques, government regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to communicate and influence varied audiences to gain support or resolve issues. Makes effective presentations on complex topics to top management, customers, and/or other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply and integrate knowledge of other related engineering areas or experts to own area of expertise.
  • Proficient with software and specialized data analysis, and engineering design tools.
  • Ability to establish and track performance to goals and objectives to complete complex or major projects and provide direction to the team at project milestones.
  • Ability to respond to significant inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or other internal teams.
  • Ability to apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Ability to work with general objectives regarding projects and team goals; applies judgment in selecting procedures and techniques that should be applied. Works collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision. Responsive to inquiries from other engineering and business teams.
