The Press Operator sets up and operates transfer presses within an assigned production area of the facility in order to manufacture a variety of high-quality products. Additionally, this individual ensures that the presses are operating efficiently and makes any necessary adjustments to resolve minor manufacturing difficulties.
Operate various presses in multiple machine combinations to produce a variety of products.
Ensure presses are operating efficiently.
Set controls and make necessary checks and adjustments to ensure production rates are met and/or improved.
Properly install and remove molds and/or press accessories from presses.
Operate forklifts and jitneys (up to 25% of the time).
Use pre-heaters/bake ovens (up to 50% of the time); mill knives (up to 25% of the time); and pliers, drills, wire brushes, and measuring/recording accessories (up to 25% of the time).
Stand (up to 100% of the time), walk (up to 75% of the time), lift (up to 75% of the time), grasp (up to 75% of the time), reach (up to 50% of the time), twist (up to 25% of the time), bend 90 degrees (up to 20% of the time), sit (up to 10% of the time), climb (up to 10% of the time), and push/pull (up to 10% of the time).
Carry/lift materials weighing up to 35 pounds (up to 50% of the time) and between 35 and 50 pounds (up to 40% of the time), occasionally carrying/lifting materials weighing over 100 pounds with assistance.
Work in warm conditions and around hot equipment.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Ability to read, understand, and follow written and/or verbal procedures, processes, and instructions.
Ability to read and understand product drawings and basic blueprints.
Knowledge of operations planning.
Preferred understanding of the Kanban system.
Computer literacy, including the ability to become proficient with Excel and SAP software.
Knowledge of basic algebra and statistics.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Ability to work any shift as well as overtime during the week as needed.
Ability to work independent of direct supervision.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment with supervisors, coworkers, and other shifts and/or departments.
Ability to effectively communicate with management and coworkers.
Ability to complete the job without direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of self or others.
Demonstrated effort toward self-improvement by gaining new knowledge/skills and accepting new assignments.
